3 channels give me "peace of mind" and that speaks to anybodyReviewed in the United States on May 2, 2020
Just got my Vantrue N4 3 channel. Spent about an hour before bed yesterday messing with the settings and installing a firmware update. After work today I went out to install it in my car. It was relatively easy. I spent about an hour fidgeting with it. Realized that "park mode" doesnt work unless you have a constant power supply. You can go without it if your only interested in capturing footage while the vehicle is running. Otherwise youll need to order an OBD Hardwire Kit for about $19 or the regular Hardwire Kit for about $16 if you want to record video while away from the vehicle. The device functions are easy to get use to once you read the manual and mess with it a bit. Speaking of the manual it was very thorough and had detailed pictures too. The video quality actually looks really good and the sound is decent to. I had fun watching the video footage of me installing it and hearing myself during playback was a hoot. Didnt have any issues with missing parts/pieces. The only constructive advice I have is to get one of the hardwire kits I mentioned so you can take advantage of recording while away from your vehicle in "park mode". I also really wish it had Wi-Fi to stream to an app or something in case the device itself gets stolen or something. Lastly, it could have also included an option to get the hardwire kit instead of the car charger. Otherwise its still very new to me. Ive seen some reviews where they pop back in after so long and update the review. If I can figure out how to do this I will try to update this review maybe every 3-6 months if needed.Update 5/20The camera is now hardwired into my vehicle and Records in park mode. I also have it set to Collision / motion detection so it only records during those times. I decided to test the camera and see what it deems an event. I went around my entire vehicle trying to open up all my doors, I hip checked the vehicle multiple times moving it enough to get the car to sway, and I went around knocking on the doors in an attempt to mimic a minor collision. For each one of these instances the camera did record each time but it only stored it under "all" or "normal" files not "event" files. This is a problem for me because if the camera isn't able to determine what an event is how can I be confident that when an actual event occurs that it will store it properly. If it doesn't store it under event files it automatically overwrites them when The SD card is full. The only way I'll know as of right now if an event has occurred is if I go through all the files and watch each one individually everyday which takes a couple hours depending on how many files you accumulated since the last time you checked it. I'm also pretty disappointed that the camera doesn't come with a WiFi/Bluetooth feature allowing you to connect to the camera wirelessly to view footage or to even track its location in the event the camera itself is stolen. The video footage is rather clear with the exception that you cannot read license plates unless you and the other vehicle are parked. I don't know if turning the footage over to the police would help maybe they can clean up the footage if not I guess I'll have to somehow obtain a software that does this which I'm sure costs a pretty penny. Night vision is great on the inside cab but the front and the rear do not come equipped with night-vision and are essentially useless if not in a well-lit area. The booklet it comes with suggests that you should not store it in direct sunlight. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to avoid this as they have to be attached to the windshield in the front and rear. If I cover the windshield then what's the point. When I go to check it after getting in the car I do notice it is concerningly warm. It says it's supposed to be good up to I don't know over a hundred sixty degrees or something so hopefully it holds up. I'm kind of paranoid that it may fall off the windshield being that it has to have the suction cup mount. Anything that I've had that requires a suction cup mount has always popped off and slid across the dash. This has yet to happen but it's likely it will. I started looking at adhesive strips for suction cup mounts so if it does start to happen I'll have a solution there. Gonna contact customer support to see about events not storing properly. Hopefully they can help me because I'm going to change my rating down to 2 stars and hopefully be able to return it.
